Woven carpets are the traditional way carpet was made, and they are still the benchmark for durability. The pile and backing are woven together on a loom, creating a dense, stable carpet that keeps its shape and appearance for many years.
Most woven ranges use a wool-rich blend, typically around 80% wool and 20% nylon. The wool brings natural softness, warmth and fire resistance, while the nylon adds extra strength. That is why woven carpet is chosen for grand staircases, hotels and theatres, and why it performs so well in a busy home.
Axminster weaving places each colour of yarn exactly where it is needed, which allows detailed, multi-colour patterns from florals to modern geometrics. Patterns also help disguise everyday marks.
Wilton weaving creates structure and texture, for example fine stripes of cut and loop pile, usually in a more restrained palette.
